The National Basketball Association, often shortened to the acronym NBA, is one of the four major professional sports organizations in the United States. The NBA consists of thirty teams, all of which are located within the contiguous United States, with the only exception being the Toronto Raptors, located in Canada.
The National Basketball Association was founded in 1946, in New York City, as the Basketball Association of America. Three years later, the NBA joined forces with its rival, the National Basketball League, to form the National Basketball Association.
The NBA is split into two conferences: the Eastern Conference, and the Western Conference. There are fifteen teams in each conference, which are grouped into groups of five, to form three divisions for each conference.
In a regular season, there are eighty two games. Exactly half of the games are played at each teams’ home court, and half are away games. After the regular season comes the playoffs. The top eight teams from each conference are entered into the playoffs, and are ranked by their “seed,” which is simply another term for the ranking of the team. The first seed plays the eighth seed, the second seed plays the seventh seed, and so forth. Each playoff series consists of up to seven games — the first team to win four games wins the series and advances to the next series.
The Atlanta Hawks are currently one of the better teams in the NBA, as they finished second in the entire Eastern Conference last year, where they fell to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Mr. Bruce Levenson, the former owner of the Georgia-based club, has helped the Hawks grow into the team they are today. The Hawks are known to have one of the lowest salaries as a team, but being one of the best. The chemistry that Mr. Levenson OF UCG has helped the Atlanta Hawks develop is truly nothing short of amazing.
The NBA is undoubtedly one of the most popular sports networks in the entire world, as people from every country in the world watch NBA games and closely follow the league.
